Panto brings festive cheer to the children at Hereford Hospital!

The cast of Dick Whittington made a festive visit to the Children’s Ward at Hereford County Hospital this week (5 December.)

Whilst talking to the young patients, the cast gave out goodies as a pre-Christmas treat, including flags and gold coins! The visit was part of our commitment to working in the community and brought a snippet of the pantomime to the children who may not be able to see it here at The Courtyard.  The cast received a tour of the ward, visited children’s A&E, and even got to design their very own ceiling tile. All staff, patients and families were so welcoming and Dick, Alice, Dame Penny Drops & Ma1sie loved meeting everyone!

Robyn Barratt, Marketing & Audience Development Manager at The Courtyard said,

The panto cast visit to the hospital really is very special to us. This year is the first time we have been able to return since Covid, after years of annual visits, and it was wonderful to see the children’s faces light up with excitement at a time when they are not feeling 100%.

Dion Davies, who plays Dame Penny Drops, said,

Visiting the hospital was one of the highlights of the panto. Being able to sing, laugh and smile with some of the poorly children, and in fact the nurses of County Hospital was utterly magical. It was so rewarding being able to bring a little bit of silliness, enjoyment, and Christmas cheer to the children!

This year’s pantomime follows the spirited hero Dick Whittington and his feline friend Tiddles, as they pack up their handkerchief to embark on an epic adventure seeking fame and fortune in London Town. With an action-packed swashbuckling story, magnificent musical numbers, spectacular sets, electric live band, dazzling costumes and a joyfully funny script, Dick Whittington is the festive family pantomime that will leave you feeling rich beyond your wildest dreams!

This classic rags-to-riches tale will be brought to life on stage with all the festive fun and excitement that audiences have come to expect from The Courtyard pantomimes. Following a 5-star pantomime of Beauty and the Beast last year, Dick Whittington is sure to surpass expectations this Christmas.

Dick Whittington runs until 6 January 2024!
